I was listening to the radio on the way in with live reports from the stadium and people on their way to the stadium… There is 2 feet of water on the streets and it has been raining buckets for 8 to 9 hours straight.. People using adjectives like "biblical" and such.. However,ul tipped opinions stated that they think there is almost no way they don't play this game.

Naturally I'd just want to think they'd want to play it safe and not take any risks where a slip could result in a goal and just pack it in and draw to nil, but at the same time, both teams have maintained their stance that they will be going all out to win, and a slippery field actually makes it harder on the defense because the offensive player knows which way he's going to cut and the defense is the one that has to react just like in American football, so we could see a couple easy goals...

ESPN radio had a live call with a guy who is going to the stadium to announce the game and he said his car hadn't moved in 20 minutes.. Said the stadium is about 15 miles from downtown and usually a half hour drive, but the interview was taking place three hours before gametime and he said if people don't leave soon they might not make it.. And that includes players and personnel.

I heard a report that says close to two feet of water already surrounding the stadium which will make it very difficult to access. In the event this report is accurate does FIFA cancel the game? If so, I suspect they would have to cancel the Ghana game as well due to advancing to the next round implications. Thoughts...???

Donk - It sounds like you may have heard the same report or something similar???

The Refs will make the decision around 1 hour before game time. The pitch is wet but not unplayable. The issue is people getting there.

Sounds like it's pretty much: Bounce the ball, if it doesnt stick in the mud, game on. A lot of these players play in England and the like, very used to rainy, wet conditions. Talking heads really think this game is going to get played.

I believe FIFA stated the match will go on as scheduled even if stadium is empty. Referee can call it after 11:00 if pitch is unplayable, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
